Why tint your windows at all?

Whether you're looking for UV protection, privacy, or simply a sleek look for your vehicle, window tint can help.

Tint keeps your car cool while also protecting your skin from harmful UV rays. It reduces harmful rays from the sun that can crack the interior and fade upholstery. Not only that, but your car will be less of a fishbowl and provide more privacy depending on the tint percentage you choose.

Did you know that there is more to choosing a tint than just selecting a percentage? When it comes to tint types, there are a few different types:

  • Dyed
  • Metalized
  • Hybrid
  • Carbon
  • Ceramic

Dyed and metalized tints can be more affordable but come with caveats. Dyed does not offer the same level of UV protection as other tints and it tends to fade over time, inevitably needing to be replaced. Metalized tints contain tiny metal microparticles creating a strong tint but radio and GPS interference is a common issue.

Carbon and ceramic tints are the superior, top-grade options, and the only options Automotive Specialty Wraps offer. In this blog post, we'll talk about the benefits of each, their differences, and which option is right for you.

What is Carbon Tint?

Carbon tint is comprised of carbon fiber particles that will not fade over time. The carbon content helps block more than 40% of the infrared light from entering through the windows.

At ASW, we offer the SunTek CXP Series. The CXP (CarbonXP) offers enhanced performance for high-end applications. This series is constructed with innovative carbon technology for superb heat rejection, glare reduction, and UV protection.

Other features and benefits include:

  • Non-metal, nano-hybrid carbon technology
  • Non-reflective, attractive appearance
  • Outstanding heat and infrared rejection, glare reduction, and UV protection
  • Enables clear and easy connectivity
  • Manufacturer's lifetime limited warranty (certain restrictions apply) with protection against change in color

What is Ceramic Tint?

Carbon fiber tinting is surpassed in performance only by ceramic tint. Ceramic tint blocks more than 99% of UV rays, which is the highest level of protection available. It also does not conduct heat, which means it reflects sunlight just as well as carbon fiber tint but with better insulation. This makes it the most effective type of tint at keeping out heat from the sun, reducing the impact on the car's internal temperature by about half.

At ASW, we offer the SunTek Evolve Series. Evolve is the next evolution in ceramic window tint featuring nanoparticle HeatResist™ technology – blocking up to 94% of IR heat*.

Other features and benefits include:

  • Offers SunTek's best heat and infrared rejection with excellent glare reduction and over 99% UV protection
  • Proprietary ceramic nanoparticle construction
  • Striking non-reflective, black finish
  • Interior UV fade and skin protection
  • Enables clear and easy connectivity
  • Added safety
  • Manufacturer's lifetime limited warranty (certain restrictions apply) with protection against change in color

* Based on data obtained during product development and subject to change. Data captured using National Fenestration Rating Council's (NFRC) guidelines and calculated for single pane, 1/4 inch (6mm) clear glass. Reported values are taken from representative product samples and are subject to normal manufacturing variances. Actual performance will vary based on a number of factors, including glass type and properties.

Which Type of Tint is Right for You?

When it comes down to it, your options are ceramic tint which is best, or carbon tint, which is second best.  If you're looking for the best possible protection from the sun and heat, ceramic tint is the way to go. If you're on a budget, carbon tint is a great option that still offers excellent performance.

At Automotive Specialty Wraps, we recommend ceramic tint for all vehicles. We offer the SunTek Evolve Series, starting at $600. If you're set on carbon tint, we offer the SunTek CXP Series, starting at $400.

Ultimately, the best type of tint for you will depend on your individual needs and budget. We hope this blog post has helped you learn more about the different types of tint available.
